Ritcey Family of Riverport, Nova Scotia

Johann Philippus Henericie was born in 1731 in Dierdorf, Germany after the family emigrated there from northern Italy.  The name Henericie is originally of Italian descent, but for the sake of convenience and brevity in the late 1860s it was changed to Ritcey.  At 19 years of age, in 1750, Johann sailed to Halifax on the ship Anne out of Rotterdam. The following year he was married in Halifax at St. Paul’s Anglican Church to Anna Catherine Mingler Engerhart (1731-1796) and the family eventually made its way to Riverport in 1754, where Johann died in 1793.
